Personality: One word that could sum up Madoka is "everyman". She is an average fourteen-year-old girl that many could relate to. She worries about things that most young girls commonly would, such as boys, friends, and homework. Madoka doesn't like hard subjects like Math, Phys Ed, or Chemistry, but she had stated that her grades are 'unremarkable'. This probably indicates that she's somewhat of a 'C-student'. Despite that, she loves going to school and thinks that it's fun. Madoka is somewhat proud of her ability of always being on time for class no matter how late she oversleeps.
She's very creative and her favorite subject is art, with drawing being one of her hobbies. Her skills aren't that bad either, since she's able to design a detailed magical girl costume and accurately draw the costumes of two other magical girls she saw. On the other hand, they're nothing phenomenal, as they're just cute doodles on her school notebook pages. She is also a member of the gardening and crafts club at school, which further indicates her interest towards creativity.
The one thing that makes Madoka stand out is her desire to help people. She's actually aware of how average she is and actually dislikes how unremarkable she is. She truly wants to make a difference in the world and give meaning to her life, which is why she is quickly enamored with the offer of becoming a magical girl at first. Though she had only stated these worries once to Kyuubey, her insecurities are subtly shown through her mannerisms: She comes off as slightly shy towards people she doesn't know well, and even then, most of the time she speaks with an uncertain air in her voice. This behavior isn't helped when goes through several traumatizing incidents throughout the series, and is unable to do anything to fix it due to her powerlessness. Despite that, she still tries to help those in need in her own way, such as trying to give them words of encouragement, or staying by their side for moral support. Being able to help someone and not feeling powerless helps boost her confidence and self-worth, which is evident by her counterpart in a timeline where she becomes a Puella Magi, who is generally happier and more outgoing.
Compared to the other girls around her, Madoka is purehearted and naive, almost to the point that she can appear a bit childish. It's very apparent with her hairstyle and penchant for stuffed animals. She was described as 'a good kid' by her mother, and she always tries to do what she thinks is the right thing. Madoka is very close to her family, especially her mother, who she always asks for advice whenever she's troubled. She even states that she wants to marry a man that would remind her of her mother. Though there are tough times when Madoka is traumatized to the point of depression, she tries her best to rebound and find the brighter side of things. For example, when she sees her friend Mami die right in front of her eyes, she is understandably mentally scarred from it, but uses this as a lesson to appreciate being alive.
In short, Madoka is an average little girl who just wants to be special and give her life meaning.

Justification: Madoka is constantly the focus of several cast members for having a lot of 'potential' for a Puella Magi. She's very innocent, and always tries to keep a positive outlook to support her friends. On the other hand, she has the tendency of making poor choices and is willing to waste all this potential on a mediocre wish, such as cake or saving a cat from being hit by a car.

First Person Sample: Ummm, actually... When I came here at first... I was a bit scared. Then again, I'm sure if anyone found themselves overseas after being knocked out would feel the same way. But, it's not so bad anymore! There are times when this place can get scary, but it can also be fun... it's kind of like an adventure! I've met so many interesting people and made some wonderful friends as well!
Plus, being here gave me this special power, an ability I can use to help people. It's almost like I'm a hero! So... I'm very thankful that I've been taken here.

Third Person Sample: What had happened...? The last thing Madoka remembered was being gripped by a giant steel hand, and she blacked out. It didn't make sense that she woke up and found herself in the middle of some unknown area. She was alive though, so she was most concerned about her friends. What happened to Kyouko? Did they manage to turn Sayaka back into her old self? Part of her feared the worst, but at the same time she wanted to hope that everything had turned out as she and Kyouko wanted. Maybe being caught in Sayaka's witch dimension caused them to be thrown out into an area of town she was unfamiliar with? It would be nice if they were here too, looking for her like she was looking for them. Something like that would be the happiest ending they could possibly get.
Madoka also had other things to take care of while she was here. She glanced down at the cell phone in her hands. No matter how much she wanted one, this couldn't belong to her. Maybe someone dropped it while they were walking... She'll need to find a police station so they can find the rightful owner of this phone. She can already imagine the person stressing out over losing it, and she's already feeling bad about carrying it around for this long while wandering the city.
Then an idea came to her. Why doesn't she just call someone on the contact list so they can direct her to the phone's owner? Things would probably be much faster that way. Motivated by this notion, Madoka fiddled with the phone and managed to get a random call going. It was then that she realized something: What if the owner of the phone got mad at her for using the phone's minutes?! A sense of panic swept over her, but it was too late to back out now.
"H-Hello, my name is Madoka Kaname," she spoke into the phone's receiver nervously. "I think someone lost this phone, and I would really like to return it. Do you know where I can find this person?"
